Zoned HVAC System Installation in Ocean Isle Beach, NC

Control the Temperature for Each Zone of Your House

What feels like the perfect temperature in a bedroom might be too hot for a living area when friends are over. Conversely, some people might like to sleep in a room that’s colder than the rest of the house.

These are just a few examples of the different temperature needs a house can have. A home with these types of varying preferences is the perfect candidate for HVAC zoning or a zoned air conditioning system.

But what is a zoned unit and how can you get one? The HVAC team at A+ Heating & Cooling – Electrical is here to help!

What Is a Zoned HVAC System?

A zoned HVAC system is a contemporary solution to an age-old problem. Traditionally, air conditioning and heating systems work by regulating one single temperature across the entire house. But as mentioned above, not every room needs to be the same temperature all the time. As everyone has their own comfort preferences, a zoned air conditioning system can make it easy to find that “just right” temperature for everyone in the house.

Zoned heating and air conditioning breaks a home into several different zones. These can be rooms or groups of rooms that are each controlled by their own separate thermostat. Think about hotels: Hotels are great examples of how zoned air conditioning can make a building work for different people with different temperature preferences. While some hotels use individual units in each room, others rely on zoned heating and cooling to allow their guests to control their own temperature within one larger HVAC system.

Benefits of HVAC Zoning

Of course, the biggest benefit to installing an HVAC zoning system in your Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina area home is the individual comfort each person gets in their own spaces.

Aside from that, there are even more advantages to a zoned HVAC system in your home. These include:

  • Less Wasted Energy

The standard model only maintains one single temperature for the entire home, which can lead to wasted energy since not all areas need the same amount of heating or cooling all at once.

Zoning keeps the rooms at a comfortable temperature while it provides more energy to the rooms where additional heating or cooling is needed. This means less energy waste and can lead to lower monthly bills.

  • Energy Savings

As mentioned above, less wasted energy can lead directly to saving money on heating and cooling costs. In fact, most homeowners with a zoned system save about 15 to 30% on their monthly costs on average. You can’t beat it.

  • Responsive Flexibility

Some rooms are naturally hotter than others because they have a large western-facing window. Others are a bit colder because of the way the building was constructed. Central heating and air conditioning systems don’t account for differences like that, but zoned HVAC systems allow for a responsive flexibility that can change based on current needs. With this, everyone can find perfect comfort in their own space.

  • Convenience

If you’re hot in the middle of the night, just hop out of bed and change the temperature on your individual thermostat. There’s no need to go all the way downstairs or to the other side of the house to get some more air.

How Does a Zoned System Work?

A zoned system works quite differently than a traditional central HVAC model because it has to be able to provide different flows of cooling and heating into different parts of the house.

It works by installing special dampers within the heating and cooling duct system, giving you the capability to either decrease or increase the temperature in just one area of the house without affecting the rest of the rooms. These dampers work like valves, shutting on and off the air supply until the ideal temperatures are reached in each zone.

Additionally, separate thermostats must be installed in each individual zone in order to control each zone’s respective dampers. If you want more air or heat in your zone, you can adjust the temperature on your thermostat, and the thermostat will communicate to the dampers to open up. As soon as your zone reaches the desired temperature, the thermostat will tell the dampers to close and resume sending air into the rest of the house.
